The Ogun State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has accused police officers of FUNAAB/ Harmony Police Station, Unnamed Road, Alabama of the attempted murder of Bakare Samuel Oriyomi.

Oriyomi is a 200 Level Animal Production and Health student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

The incident was reported to have occurred on September 26, 2022, at around 10 pm.

In a statement signed by the duo of Kehinde Damilola Simeon and Ekundina Segun Elvis, NANS Chairman and Deputy Senate President respectively and dated October 3, the students association allege that the Police shot severally at Samuel and commercial motorcycle riders in their usual power drunken and overbearing manner.

"Bakare Samuel is one among millions of Nigerian students affected by the ongoing ASUU strike and rather than resorting to fraud or thuggery, Samuel had engaged himself in Interior Decorations to earn a living and was coming from the site when he was accosted by about six officers who parked their patrol van at Isolu Cele junction.

"This incident which is tantamount to a murder attempt was carried out by men who are supposed to keep murderers away from us."

The Ogun NANS also allege that there are several attempts by the Harmony Police Station to completely cover the issue in secrecy and hold no one accountable.

"There as well have been no plans to offer reprieve to the victims who barely survived.

"Despite assurances of goodwill and professionalism from the upper echelon of the Police Force, we still continue to receive unabated reports of harassment, unprovoked shootings, extortions and in extreme cases, losses of life."
