The Nigerian Army has commissioned a solar-powered borehole it donated to the Rigwechingo community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau state.

The project was commissioned by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General Ibrahim Ali.

While commissioning the project, he commended the level of cooperation enjoyed by troops from communities on the Plateau.

He said the donation of the borehole became necessary to address one of the critical needs of the community and to demonstrate the goodwill of the Nigerian Army.

He added that the project stands to support the return of all displaced persons to their ancestral homes.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 3 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Ishaku Takwa on Thursday.

According to Takwa, the GOC said the project followed a request by "The leadership of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA) towards supporting the OTU RIGWE 2022 socio-cultural celebration, an event used to solicit for support from dignitaries to provide basic needs to aid the resettlement of displaced communities within the Irigwe Chiefdom."

The GOC further warned the people against harbouring criminals in the community while urging the beneficiaries to protect the project and maintain it to serve them better.

He also called on the community to remain committed to the course of peace and continue to support security agencies.

Meanwhile in his remark, President of the Irigwe Development Association, Prince Robert Ashi Dodo appreciated the GOC/Commander OPSH for the kind gesture.
