The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has reaffirmed again that it is prepared to use the Digital Postcode system in order to increase the country's revenue creation and combat security issues.

Franklin Alao, the Director of Corporate Communications at NIPOST, told this to reporters on Wednesday in Abuja.

He claimed that efforts to implement a digital postcode system in Nigeria were progressing rapidly.

He claims that the organisation won't stop until the programme has a good effect on Nigerians.

A digitalised postcode system, according to Dr Ismail Adewusi, Postmaster General of NIPOST, will speed up economic activity and make doing business in Nigeria easier.

He asserts that the postcode system's digitalisation will enable better mail delivery, sorting, and emergency response by security services.

Alao predicted that this will lower crimes including banditry, kidnapping, and online fraud.

He also added that private business owners would be able to effectively communicate with their customers thanks to technology.

“It will also facilitate easy identification of places and seamless delivery of goods and services.

“We are not unaware of the difficulties which service providers in Nigeria face, due to lack of an efficient address system.

“With our process of enhancing the Postcode and leveraging on technology, we drew up entities in a manner that ensures every part of the country is effectively captured.

“Using a systematic framework of alpha-numeric characters from the State, Local Government Areas, Postcode Districts, Postcode Areas and Postcode Units,” he said.
