The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have stated their demands from President Bola Tinubu's government to call off the ongoing nationwide in the country.

Organised labour unions went on strike on Tuesday in response to the assault on NLC president Joe Ajaero. The National Executive Council instructed its affiliates to carry out the resolutions of the National Executive Council.

The NLC detailed its demands from the Federal Government in a post on X (previously known as Twitter), including the arrest of several government individuals.

Below is a list of the demands made by organised labour according to their statement on the X social media platform:

“1. Arrest and prosecute Mr Chinasa Nwaneri, the S.A. on Special Duties, the deadly gang leader of Hope Uzodinma thugs: He led the attack against workers on that day.

“2. Arrest, prosecute and dismiss all police officers involved in the brutalization of the NLC President and workers in Imo state.

“3. Arrest and prosecute all thugs that attacked the NLC President in Imo State.

“4. Arrest, prosecute and dismiss the chief security officer Imo State government House, SP Shaba: He led, participated and provided cover for thugs to brutalize workers in Imo State.

“5. Arrest, prosecute and dismiss the police area commander who led the brutalization of the NLC President and other workers in Imo State.

6. Investigate and prosecute the former Imo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Barde.”

Yesterday, a former NLC president, now Senator, Adams Oshiomhole discussed the issue of the ongoing strike while visiting the Vice President of the country.

Oshiomhole asserts that the ongoing strike by organised labour is a misplaced priority and the unions should not be carried away by sentiments.
