The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has raised new concerns about his deteriorating health in Abuja, emphasising the critical need for medical care to avoid a future health crisis.

According to the family's spokesperson, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu requires emergency cardiology care.

The family expressed further concern about the Federal Government's reported expenditure of N800 million for each court appearance made by Nnamdi Kanu.

They sought clarity on the recipients of this cash and how it is used.

"We heard that the Government spends N800 million each time he is brought to court. Then, we want to know who the beneficiaries of the said money are? Government should tell the people who collects and spends the money, and on what," Prince Emmanuel Kanu remarked.

The family was concerned about the impact of the claimed expenditure on Kanu's chances of being granted bail. They anticipated that those who benefited from his continued confinement would oppose any efforts to win his release.

Furthermore, the family voiced concern about Nnamdi Kanu's alleged deteriorating health. They stressed his lack of access to personal doctors and the urgent necessity for him to see a cardiologist. The family insisted that Kanu should not be left to die in the care of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Amidst these worries, the family reaffirmed its request for international action to ensure Nnamdi Kanu's release, defining his arrest as unjust and underlining his campaign for the freedom of the Biafran people.

Nnamdi Kanu has been kept in solitary confinement at the DSS headquarters in Abuja since his arrest and extraordinary rendition from Kenya on June 21, 2021.
