The Delta State Police Command has apprehended two notorious armed robbery suspects.

This was revealed in a post made by Delta Police spokesman Bright Edafe on Tuesday. The two accused, Azuluonye Okonkwo 21 and Anuku Joseph, were detained on Monday.

Edafe added that their arrest followed a succession of armed robbery reports filed on various social media handles.

He said: “Sequel to the series of complaints of armed robbery posted on various social media handles and the promise of CP Abaniwonda Olufemi to arrest the perpetrators, these two suspects, Azuluonye Okonkwo aged 21 years, and Anuku Joseph were arrested yesterday.

“They confessed their involvement in armed robbery around the COKA area, they robbed three houses and the victims came to the headquarters and identified them.

“But one point to note is that in some of the houses they entered around 2 am, their gates were not even locked. Let’s take our security seriously pls.”

Still in Delta, the Police Command successfully neutralized the leader of a kidnapping syndicate and recovered an AK-47 rifle.

Speaking to journalists in Warri on Monday, the command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, reported that the suspect was neutralized on Thursday by a special squad deployed to Ughelli North Local Government Area, LGA.

Edafe explained that before the incident, the special squad had been employing an intelligence-led policing strategy, resulting in the arrest of over nine suspected kidnappers and the recovery of various firearms.

“The team again recorded another major achievement on May 16, 2024, when they stormed Inene Community in Ughelli North LGA.

“On the trail of the leader of a dreaded kidnapping syndicate known as Joel Joseph. The suspect, upon sighting the operatives, opened fire on them and in the ensuing gun duel, the suspect sustained serious gunshot injuries.

“He was taken to the General Hospital, Ughelli, where he died while receiving treatment,” he said.

Edafe said one AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of live cartridge was recovered from him, adding that efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
