NYSC: New DG Promises Improved Security, Welfare For Corps Members, Staff

Brig. General Yusha’u Ahmed, the newly appointed Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has vowed to improve the security and welfare of corps members and staff of the scheme.

The new DG made the pledge during the official handing over of the control of the affairs of the scheme from the acting DG, Christy Uba.

Ahmed added that his administration would also provide an enabling environment for research and development towards the advancement of NYSC.

He noted capacity builfimg for efficiency and the strengthening of stakeholders as other areas of focus of his administration.

“Also, deepening the impact of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

“I, therefore, solicit the cooperation of members of staff and stakeholders to enable us to move the scheme to higher level of achievements.

“I assure you that I will not only sustain the high tempo but collectively, we will take the scheme to greater heights," he added.

The Kaduna State-born Director General assured that the scheme  would make the country proud with n outstanding participation in national assignments. 

Ahmed was born in Katarko, Kaduna State and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education (History) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He has held several positions since his commenced his career in the Nigerian Army Education Corps as a lieutenant on July 5, 1997.

In her remark, the outgoing Acting DG assured the new NYSC boss of the cooperation of the management in discharging his dutoes and achiving success.

 “We are conscious of the tasking nature of the NYSC operations.

“However, our experiences, loyalty and love for the job will always be brought to bear in surmounting challenges, as well as ensuring success in all undertakings.

“It is gratifying to note that you are in a familiar terrain, having served as military assistant to former director-general of the scheme.

“I am confident that the experience gained in your previous assignment here, and the cordial relationship already established with members of staff will facilitate your success as you steer the affairs of this noble organisation.

“It is my prayer that the almighty God guides and protects you as you step in for this important national assignment," Uba said.

AllNews Nigeria reports that Ahmed was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace former DG, Brig.-Gen. Muhammad Fadah, who was removed six months after he assumed office.

Ahmed takes over as the 22nd Director-General of the scheme, the News Agenct of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
