Olubadan: Atiku, Orji Kalu mourn late monarch

On Friday, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed his condolences over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun, praising him as a patriot and a visionary leader.

In a statement released by his media office in Abuja, Atiku Abubakar also hailed the late Balogun as a dear friend and a dedicated patriot.

He noted that the deceased remained committed to serving the people's interests, both during his time as a politician and after ascending the throne.

Abubakar acknowledged Oba Olalekan Balogun's unwavering socialist principles, highlighting his enduring commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the populace throughout his tenure as a traditional leader.

“The deceased Olubadan will be sorely missed for his wisdom and strategic thinking,” he said.


Abubakar, declaring his solidarity with the people of Ibadan at the difficult time, prayed for the Ali-Iwo family of the late Olubadan to find the fortitude to bear the loss of their patriarch.

He also prayed for the Almighty God to forgive the shortcomings of the late traditional ruler and accept his soul.

A former Abia governor, Orji Kalu also commiserated with the government and people of Oyo state in a statement on Friday, in Abakaliki.

The lawmaker acknowledged the robust contributions of the late traditional ruler to the social, economic and political development of Ibadan, Oyo state  and Nigeria.

“I urge leaders to emulate the exemplary qualities of the late nationalist who was passionate about the unity and progress of Nigeria.


“He was a well-respected traditional ruler owing to his selflessness, patriotism, humility, and commitment to community service.

“The late Olubadan will be forever remembered for leaving behind worthy legacies for his family to uphold,” he stated.

Kalu described the traditional ruler’s demise as a huge loss to the nation and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.
