The Ondo State government has agreed to implement a N70,000 minimum wage for state workers.

In Akure, the state capital, State Head of Service Bayo Phillip announced that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has assured that his administration will align with the federal government's approved national minimum wage for workers.

Phillip stated that the state is prepared to implement the new national minimum wage approved by President Bola Tinubu for its workers.

He emphasized the governor's commitment to the welfare of the state workforce, noting that Ondo State was the first to pay the Thirty-Five Thousand Naira Wage Award to its workers.

He further mentioned that the state was among the few that extended this payment beyond the initially stipulated six months and would continue to do so until the new minimum wage is fully implemented.

Phillip added that this initiative also includes retirees and workers in state-owned tertiary institutions to help alleviate the current economic challenges in the country.

“Before the bill was assented to by the President, the Governor had given his words that Ondo State will pay whatever minimum wage as may be agreed upon and assented to by Mr President.

“As I speak, we are doing all the preliminaries that as soon as the details of the salary table for the minimum wage is out, we will look at it, and I know, true to his promise, will implement it without delay."
