The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has issued an order for the immediate tightening of security at the lodges of corps members in the state.
Durosinmi gave the order on Tuesday during the passing-out ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream II Corp members at the National Youth Service Orientation Camp, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
He urged the corps members to be security conscious and avoid criminal acts capable of denting their image.
The governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel, who was represented by Mr Emmanuel Akpabio who is the Director, Youths Development in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, cautioned the corps members against allowing divisive tendencies to influence their approach to national issues.
He urged them to make a mark in their Community Development Service (CDS) programme during the one year stay in the state and endeavour to co-exist mutually with their host communities and refrain from any action that will offend their sensibilities.
On his part, the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, urged the corps members to build on the skills acquired from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to empower themselves and become self-reliant
Ahmed, who was represented by the State Coordinator of NYSC in Akwa Ibom, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, said that NYSC Authority would liaise with financial institutions and other stakeholders to provide start-up loans for them to actualize their dreams.
