The TikTok clone Spotlight and the OpenAI-powered chatbot "My AI" are two of Snap's most popular services that will now carry advertisements.

The new ad styles were disclosed by the corporation during its presentation at the NewFronts advertising conference.

Snap started experimenting with Spotlight advertising last year, but will soon start implementing them internationally.

The addition may provide a major boost to Snap's advertising division, which has struggled lately.

According to the firm, Spotlight, which pays artists for well-liked short-form films, has more than 350 million monthly visitors.

For Spotlight producers, the introduction of adverts may also bring up a number of intriguing opportunities, chief among them the prospect of revenue-sharing agreements.

Although Snap hasn't yet made any such plans public, the company recently expanded other ad revenue sharing programmes, so it's conceivable that Snap may do the same for Spotlight in the future.

Additionally, Snap is adding advertisements to My AI, the chatbot it recently made available to all users. Directly in user conversations, My AI will be able to expose sponsored links there.

According to the company, the sponsored links should be pertinent to the discussion.

In response to a query about where to eat tonight, the chatbot, which can currently propose nearby eateries based on the app's Snap Map, may surface a sponsored post from a nearby eatery or meal delivery service.

Similar to how sponsored links from an airline or game shop may come up in a chat about vacationing or playing video games.

The business refers to the My AI advertisements as an early trial, but it is noteworthy that Snap has decided to add ads to the chatbot so soon after its debut.

The tool, which, unlike friend-to-friend chats, doesn't keep talks secret, the business claims has significant engagement.

Ads at this point would also alienate some users given the company's recent contentious move to place the bot at the front of everyone's chats.

In any case, the test will be a fascinating look at how social media businesses could be able to make money from generative AI capabilities.
