A Pakistani national who was caught on camera ‘driving’ his Range Rover with his feet has been found guilty and handed a fine of R8,000.
Ikhalar Ul Haq was found guilty of reckless and negligent driving, Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson Simon Zwane told IOL news media.
Zwane also stated that the motorist was sentenced to an R8 000 fine or eight months in prison and that his driver's license was suspended for six months.
“He pleaded guilty to the charge," said Zwane.
Ul Haq appeared in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Friday. He was photographed hanging out of his red Range Rover while driving down Moloto Road in Pretoria almost a year ago.
He got out of the car and attempted to steer it with his feet.
He was arrested by the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit, an investigative arm of the Road Traffic Management Corporation.
According to reports, Moloto Road, which connects Mpumalanga, Gauteng and Limpopo in South Africa, is a notoriously dangerous road in which accidents frequently occur.
