The Supreme Court has dismissed the suit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, from the 2023 presidential election.

The judicial seal of approval for the inauguration of the aforementioned duo was given on Friday morning by Justice Adamu Jauro.

In his verdict, Jauro held that the PDP’s suit praying the disqualification of Tinubu and Shettima was grossly lacking in merit.

He further slammed a N2 million fine on the party for poke-nosing into the internal affairs of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the conduct of its primary elections and nomination of its candidates.

Jauro agreed with Tinubu's counsel Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) that the main opposition party acted as a busybody and meddlesome interloper in the ways and manners it dabbled into APC’s affairs unjustly.

Speaking further, he stated that apart from the fact that PDP lacked the requisite jurisdiction to institute the suit, the party also failed to provide a scintilla of evidence that Shettima engaged in double nomination.

The double nomination allegation was called "most unfortunate" and a clear deliberate mischief to mislead the Court and the country.

“It is abundantly clear that the Appellant (PDP) in the totality of its position in the instant case, is peeping and poke-nosing into the affairs of another party as a busybody and meddlesome interloper,” Jauro said.

He added that the PDP's action was painful because it used social media to set a booby trap for the Apex Court in order to blackmail it.
