The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is set to enrol 55 students of the state who returned from Ukraine into Baze University, Abuja.

The students studying medicine and other related courses were forced to abandon their studies and return to Nigeria due to the ongoing Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

This was disclosed to newsmen by the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Scholarship Board, Bello Isa.

Isa said the government would be spending N500 million annually for their education which is 50 per cent of what the government had been spending when they were out of the country.

“The state will now be spending N500 million annually on their education, which is 50 per cent of what we had been spending on them when they were in Ukraine.

“When they were in Ukraine, we spent over one billion naira (N1 billion) on their tuitions and upkeep allowances.

“And you know things are no longer the same. Many states in the country are struggling to pay the salaries of their staff.

“That is why during our meeting with the parents and leaders of the students, we told ourselves the bitter truth."

He further noted that all parties agreed to the enrollment of the students into Baze University, stressing that the university has the best facilities.
