The Turkish coast guard rescued 108 irregular migrants pushed back by Greece on Wednesday.

According to a statement by the Coast Guard Command, a total of 108 migrants were struggling to stay afloat in rubber boats off the Urla, Çeşme and Dikili districts when the Turkish authorities intervened.

It added that the migrants were then referred to the provincial migration office for processing.

Turkey has been a prime spot for refugees, as in recent years, hundreds of thousands have made harmful journeys across the Aegean Sea in a bid for a better life elsewhere. Hundreds have also died at sea as many boats carrying refugees sank or capsized.

Over time, Turkey has accused Greece of pushing back, deporting, and denying migrants access to asylum procedures, which violates international law.
