Football officials in Kitutu Chache, Kisii, Kenya confirmed on Sunday that at least two players have been killed in a lightning strike during a match at Manyansi.
During the 4.30 p.m. incident, the teams - Manyansi and Nyagiti - were playing a friendly.
Sammy Musa, 20, and Joshua Nyangaresi, 21, were identified as the victims.
According to Marani OCPD Benlife Munuve, one player died at the scene and the other died in the hospital after being rushed there for emergency treatment.
Evans Akanga, chair of the Kitutu Chache North Football Kenya Federation, said the players died on Saturday evening during a friendly tournament.
Two other players are being treated for injuries at Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital after being rushed there.
