Police at Wandegeya, Kampala are investigating a case in which a private security guard allegedly shot himself dead on Thursday morning as gun violence continues to rock the country.

Around 9 am, in the Buganda Road Zone, Nakasero III Parish, Kampala Central Division, Rogers Atuhaire, an employee of SGA Security Company, allegedly shot himself to death.

“Atuhaire Rogers, who had been deployed at the beat for the past two days, was found dead at the scene.

"Initial reports suggest that the deceased was discovered by Okudu David, a day guard who had arrived for duty.

"David reported hearing the sound of a gun being cocked, assuming it was a routine safety precaution,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire.

“Investigations have revealed that Atuhaire was working alongside Mary Namumanya for the night duty.

"As part of the investigation process, witness statements have been recorded, and relevant exhibits have been recovered,” ASP Owoyesgyire added.

To aid with the ongoing investigations, six people have been taken into custody for interrogation.

According to the police spokesperson, a thorough and unbiased investigation into the facts surrounding this unfortunate tragedy will be conducted. Additional details will be given as the investigation moves forward.

In just five days, Atuhaire is the fourth security guard to die in a shooting.

According to authorities, as gun violence wracks the nation, a guard employed by another private security company was detained on murder charges yesterday after he allegedly shot and killed a fellow guard in the Tororo District of eastern Uganda.
