The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, has said Ugandans still in war-torn Sudan are not willing to return to Uganda.

Oryem stated that while the government is eager to repatriate its nationals, no one has requested to return.

Oryem, on the other hand, stated that repatriation is voluntary and that people who wish to remain in Sudan are free to do so.

"No Ugandans have asked to return." "We sent out 211 Ugandans who had registered, and no other Ugandans have requested to come," Oryem added.

Minister Oryem urged people who wanted to return to Sudan to register with the Ugandan embassy.

However, Uganda's ambassador to Sudan, Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, stated at the end of last month that 50 more Ugandans needed to be evacuated.

"Nineteen Ugandans are still receiving treatment at Alsalam Hospital.

"We have eight who we evacuated with the help of our Saudi Arabian friends, three who made their way through Port Sudan, seven who were helped by the UN, and others who used the Sudan-Ethiopia border.

"Others fled through Southern Sudan,”  Ssemuddu said at Entebbe Airport after 211 evacuees arrived last month.

He added: "We are following them up as we have created a database to ensure their location.

"As soon as we find them, with the support of our government, we are working hard to ensure they all come back home.”

On April 15, Sudan's army head, Gen Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, and his deputy-turned-rival, Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias Hemedti, initiated a power struggle. As a result, people have been killed and property has been destroyed.
