Controversy has arisen following an interview conducted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) with Nigerian YouTuber Emdee Tiamiyu, known for his advice on studying in the United Kingdom.
Tiamiyu’s statements during the interview have attracted criticism from various quarters.
In the interview, Tiamiyu asserted that a considerable number of Nigerians seeking education in the UK were not genuinely interested in obtaining new qualifications but rather saw it as an opportunity to start a new life abroad.
He claimed that many individuals who applied for schooling in the UK viewed it simply as an alternative means to escape Nigeria.

Based in Birmingham, Tiamiyu provided the interview amidst new immigration regulations that will impose restrictions on Nigerian students and others studying in the UK, prohibiting them from bringing their families as dependants, except in specific circumstances.
These regulations, slated to be implemented in January 2024, aim to prevent the misuse of the visa system by eliminating the option for international students to switch from the student route to work routes before completing their studies.
Tiamiyu’s remarks have been met with disappointment and disapproval among Nigerians.
Critics argue that his comments undermine the genuine aspirations of those who genuinely intend to pursue their studies in the UK.
Furthermore, some individuals have accused Tiamiyu of being a sellout and clout chaser, suggesting that he seeks attention and popularity through controversial statements.
Dear Nigerians in UK , Emdee Tiamiyu is less than 1 year in the UK . I doubt he even has N.I number.. You know his full name. You have seen his front view, aerial view, side view and back view. If he is not deported back to Nigeria by September 2023 na Una I go blame. pic.twitter.com/SGXrb9dT9o
