A 24-year-old football fan was shot dead on Sunday while jubilating the victory of the Uruguayan football team, Nacional in the Uruguayan championship in Montevideo, Uruguayan local media reports.
It was reported by the media, quoting sources from the police, that the fan was shot amidst the Nacional's victory jubilation near their headquarters in the country's capital.
There is yet to be an official report from the police.
The club has come out to say that, “Nacional condemns a new act of violence, another unjustifiable murder in the frame of Uruguayan football."
The club enjoins “all its supporters to remain calm and responsible even in the midst of pain. It’s no longer a day to celebrate, all of Nacional embraces as a family.”
Video footage showed an ecstatic crowd near the club's headquarters when sporadic shots were fired.
The club won the Uruguayan 2019 football championship after defeating Penarol in a game that ended 1 - 0.
