The Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Ahmed Ammani, says the state recorded huge successes at the just-concluded February 25 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

Ammani said this on Tuesday after presiding over the Inter-agency Consultation Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting held in Enugu.

He said that no life was lost in the election during and after the election.

“This is where the ICCES members and heads of security agencies have to give glory to God for being with everybody in the state,” he said.

The commissioner added that the security agencies made no arrest during and after the polls, as the people comported themselves in an orderly and matured manner.

“The election was conducted peaceful, free, fair and credible.

“Even in an axis we got information that hoodlums were trying to cause havoc, while we are storming there, the hoodlums in their numbers ran away.

"After this incident, every part of the state remained calm.

“There was no clear threat to security of lives and property during and after the elections,” he said.

The commissioner lauded the various security agencies for their active collaboration and unflinching support that led to the success of the election.

Speaking, Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for INEC in Enugu State, said that INEC recorded some successes in the just-concluded elections.

Chukwu said that the commission ensured “that no registered voter that presents his or her self at the polling unit was disenfranchised as electorate came out en masse for the election”.

“Our staff have to work late in the night on the election day and for areas that we did not conclude that night, our staff started again 8a.m. the next day and ended by 12p.m.,” he said.

The REC noted that the elections in the state were generally successful and peaceful as acclaimed by most of the residents and electorate in the state.

He, however, said that the lapses that were noticed during the just-concluded elections would be corrected before the March 11 elections.
