Yobe Governor Inaugurates EU Monitoring, Evaluation Committee

The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has inaugurated the state's project steering committee of the EU Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Statistics Project.

The inauguration took place at the conference room of the Deputy Governor's office in Damaturu on Wednesday. 

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana explained that the EU - Yobe Public Finance Management (PFM) Monitoring and Evaluation and Statistics complements other European Union (EU) programmes in the state.

He said the projects were aimed at supporting early post-insurgency recovery and building resilience to conflict in Yobe state.

Yobe State is one of the North-Eastern states that has suffered the devastation caused by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The governor said the insurgency has caused the state "Massive loss of lives, extensive damage to infrastructure and properties as well as disruption to service delivery and socio-economic activities."

He added that the EU - Yobe project is a unique opportunity for the state to consolidate and sustain its governance reforms agenda.

He further stressed that the project came at the right time filling the void created by the closure of some development partner programmes notably EU- SLOGOR and UK FCDO PERL Project. 

Buni noted that the project has "a twin objective of improving fiscal discipline and ensuring efficient allocation and spending of financial resources for better service delivery as well as strengthening the capacity of state and non-state actors in public finance monitoring and evaluation and statistics."

The Governor as Chairman, the Yobe state Budget And Economic Planning, North East Development Commission (NEDC), and European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations ( ECHO) amongst others. 

The Governor assured that government will do its best to ensure that the project succeeds in achieving its set objectives.
