Youngest Law Professor Emerges DVC Of UNIABUJA

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has accepted the appointment of Professor Aisha Maikudi, the nation's youngest female law professor and the first from Northwest Nigeria, as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the institution.

The approval is alongside that of Professor Philip Afaha as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administrative)

The proposal was approved by the Council at its 96th Regular Meeting, which took place between May 4 and May 5, 2023, according to a statement revealed by the institution on Monday.

The council gave its approval following the pair's selection in the 78th Extraordinary Senate Meeting on March 22, 2023, as required by the University of Abuja Act,

“The appointment which took effect from May 5, 2023, was for a period of two years in the first instance,” the statement read.

Maikudi, the newest DVC Academic, was born on January 31, 1983.

In 2004, she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Reading, and in 2005, she earned a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She graduated from the University of Abuja with a doctorate in international law in 2015.

According to information from the school’s website, Maikudi joined the services of the university in 2008 as lecturer 2 before rising to the rank of professor in 2022.

The DVC administrative, Philip Adaha was born in 1972.

He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Uyo in 1995 and 2004, respectively.

Afaha later bagged a doctorate degree in History in 2011 from UNIABUJA.

Prior to becoming a professor, Afaha began working for the institution in January 2013 as a senior lecturer.
