Six women and a one-year-old who were kidnapped regained freedom on Saturday, November 2, 2022, in Zamfara State.
The State Command's spokesman in the state, SP Muhammad Shehu, disclosed this in Gusau on Sunday, adding that the abductors seized the victims at Kadamutsa village in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state on November 24.
He explained that however, the victims were rescued on Zurmi-Jibia Highway on Saturday, November 26.
He added that the rescue operation was a joint operation with local vigilant groups and intelligence report received by the police.
“Police operatives mobilised to the area where a search-and-rescue operation was conducted along Zurmi-Jibiya federal highway leading to the unconditional rescue of all the victims unhurt.
“The rescued victims were taken to hospital for medical checks, debriefed by the police and returned to their families,’’ Shehu stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Kolo Yusuf commended the police operatives and vigilantes for the successful rescue operation.
Yusuf also congratulated the victims for regaining their freedom, and reiterated police’s continued determination to rid the state of crime, as quoted by NAN.
