BUA Cement, established in 2008, commenced operations with floating cement terminals dedicated to bulk and bag cement unloading. In 2009, BUA Group, led by founder Abdulsamad Rabiu, acquired Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) and Edo Cement Company, enhancing the annual cement production capacity. The company signed a contract with FLSmidth in 2015 for a 3 million mtpa production line in Edo Cement, operationalized in 2017 as Obu Cement (Line I).
In 2018, BUA Obu Cement completed a 3 million mtpa plant, increasing the combined capacity at Okpella to 6 million mtpa. In 2020, BUA Group consolidated its cement operations, listing BUA Cement Plc on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. With a total installed capacity of 8 million mtpa and a market capitalization of N1.18 trillion (US$3.3 billion), it became Nigeria's second-largest cement producer and the largest in the North Western region.
BUA Cement PLC, headquartered in Nigeria, is publicly listed and specializes in the production and marketing of cement products. Formed through the consolidation of BUA Group's cement interests, it emerged as a major player in the Nigerian market. The company's entry into cement began in 2008, initially importing and re-bagging cement before acquiring controlling interest in Edo Cement. BUA Cement PLC was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in January 2020 with a market capitalization of $3.2 billion.
