Evans Medical Plc is incorporated in Nigeria as a pharmaceutical manufacturing and marketing entity, with a factory located in Agbara, Ogun State and corporate office at Isolo, Lagos.
Evans medical plc was originally incorporated on 23rd April 1954 under the name Allen and Hanburys (Nigeria) Limited, a name which is still embodied in one of its leading products – allenbury’s glucose D. following its parent company’s being taken over by another British pharmaceutical company, glaxo laboratories limited, it changed its name to glaxo – allenburys (Nigeria) Ltd in 1958.
The company initially traded in pharmaceutical products, imported from the United Kingdom. In 1963, it established a manufacturing plant at Apapa, Nigeria, aimed at producing glucose D, a consumer healthcare product. The company thus became a blend of ethical pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare products business, while the trading name changed again to glaxo Nigeria ltd in 1970.
To further show a mark of confidence in the future, the company increased its capital investment in the country by building a new ultra-modern plant in Agbara, Ogun state, which stood as the largest pharmaceutical factory in Nigeria, and even in West Africa, in 1982. It was declared open by the parent company’s (Glaxo Holdings Ltd (Uk), chairman, sir Austin Bide.
Due to new opportunities, the company veered into over – the counter drugs,which significantly expanded its portfolio of products. In 1994, another business restructuring took place, leading to the split of the company into two separate, self-accounting entities, namely, glaxo Nig ltd (dealing in ethical) and Evans medical plc (dealing in OTC Drugs and Glucose D).
The Evans medical plc operated since then under that name till 2003 when it added three (3) new companies, namely, Cipla Evans (Nigeria) Ltd, a joint venture with Cipla ltd, India, for marketing ethical medicines, Evans nutraceutical Ventures, manufacturing & marketing Apex mil products and Evans Healthcare (Nigeria) ltd for marketing medical /surgical consumables and hospital equipment.

The company is a consumer and pharmaceutical company in Nigeria that manufactures and sells a range of over-the-counter, prescriptive pharmaceutical products and nutraceuticals (health) products. The company produces products for the prevention and/or treatment of malaria, infections, asthma, ulcers, hypertension, diabetes, colds and flu and erectile dysfunction. Evans Medical also produces health products, vitamins and minerals, topical preparations and haematinics blood forming preparations. Established in 1954 and formerly known as Glaxo Nigeria Plc, the company changed its name to Evans Medical Plc in 1994. The company head office is in Lagos, Nigeria.
