The pair became engaged in January 2004 and got married on June 3, 2006. They have two children, sons Indiana August (born in 2004) and Atticus (born in 2008). They separated privately in November 2015, announcing their split in March 2016.
Affleck started a relationship with actress Floriana Lima in 2016. They have since gone their separate ways.
Education
He attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and studied at the Columbia University, New York. He did not graduate from the latter institution, saying: "I would do a semester of school, go do a movie... Opportunities kept presenting themselves that were hard for me to turn down... By then, I didn't really have roots at the school or a group of friends."
Career
Affleck got professional acting roles as a child and appeared as Kevin Bacon's brother in the PBS TV movie Lemon Sky (1988).
His first movie role came when he later moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He acted as a sociopathic teen in the satirical comedy To Die For (1995).
During his time studying at Columbia, he got a supporting role in Good Will Hunting (1997). He also had a minor role in Kevin Smith's Chasing Amy (1997).
The actor's career subsequently entered a "dark" phase where he was featured in a series of supporting roles and commercial failures.
He found a degree of commercial success when he was cast in the heist film Ocean's Eleven (2001) and his next lead role was in the 2006 film Lonesome Jim.
Affleck's breakthrough came in 2007 with the release of the critically successful movies, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Gone Baby Gone.
He returned to regular acting work after a short pause in 2013, starring opposite Rooney Mara in Ain't Them Bodies Saints. He played a grieving alcoholic in Manchester by the Sea (2016).
