She attended Grace Children Schools in Gbagada for her primary education, while she went to Lagos State Model College, Igbo-Kuta for her secondary education. Funke Akindele obtained her OND in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State, and then went further up the academic ladder to get a degree in law from the University of Lagos.
In April 2020, Funke was arrested for violating lockdown order by holding a birthday party for her husband during the lockdown imposed to curb coronavirus and then sentenced to 14 days of community service after she pleaded guilty. She later appeared in a Nigeria Centre for Disease Control video to raise awareness about coronavirus.
The beautiful actress first came into limelight when she played the role of a secondary school girl, Bisi, in a sitcom, sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), ‘I Need to Know’ in 1998. The comedy soap opera ran from 1998 to 2002.
Her major break came when she played the role of a local girl in the movie ‘Jenifa’. She has gone ahead to make a name for herself in the Nigerian entertainment industry with the way she effortlessly interprets her roles which she extended to her own soap opera.
