Personal Life

Jared Leto was born in Louisiana. His parents divorced when he was a child and he and his older brother were raised by their mother and maternal grandparents.

The actor isn't the type to make his personal life public knowledge but reports say he has a steady partner, 26-year-old model Valery Kaufman. They have reportedly being an item for the past few years.

Education

Leto dropped out of school in the 10th grade and returned later returned to continue at the private Emerson Preparatory School in Washington D.C.

He enrolled at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia and transferred to the School of Visual Arts in New York after he developed an interest in filmmaking. 

Leto further attended the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design, a part of the George Washington University.

Career

The actor moved to Los Angeles in 1992 to pursue a career in directing, with the intention of taking acting roles. He had small parts in TV shows and got his first break in 1994 in the ABC teen drama My So-Called Life.

His first film role was in the 1995 drama How to Make an American Quilt, and he also starred alongside Christina Ricci in The Last of the High Kings (1996).

Leto had a supporting role in Girl, Interrupted (1999) and protrayed Angel Face in Fight Club (1999). In 2000, he played a heroin addict in Requiem for a Dream. His performance was critically acclaimed by critics.

He portrayed the closest friend of the titular character in the 2004 biographical drama Alexander and co-starred with Nicolas Cage the following year in Lord of War. The star made his directorial debut in 2012 with the documentary film Artifact

After a five-year break from acting, Leto featured in the drama Dallas Buyers Club (2013). In December 2015, he was confirmed to play the Joker in the DC movie Suicide Squad.

Sony Pictures announced plans for a film adaptation of Morbius in November 2017, revealing that the actor will star as the eponymous character.

In 2021, he was seen in Zack Snyder's Justice League, reprising the role of the Joker in a cameo appearance.
