Personal Life

Melissa McCarthy was born in Plainfield, Illinois, the daughter of Sandra and Michael McCarthy. She married her longtime boyfriend Ben Falcone on October 8, 2005. They have two daughters; Vivian and Georgette.

Education

The actress graduated from St. Francis Academy (now Joliet Catholic Academy) in Illinois. 

Career

McCarthy made her TV debut in an episode of the NBC comedy series Jenny and made her movie debut as a minor character in the comedy Go (1999).

In 2000, she was cast in the WB TV series Gilmore Girls and starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in the sci-fi movie The Nines. Her breakout role was in the comedy film Bridesmaid. For her performance, she got an Academy Award nomination.

She was added to the cast of the female version of the Ghostbusters reboot, directed by Paul Feig. It was released in 2016. In 2021 she starred alongside Octavia Spencer in the superhero comedy Thunder Force.
