She was born on February 7, 1978 in Lagos state, although she originally hails from Ogun state.
She attended Chrisland School, Opebi, Lagos for her primary education but finished in Oxford Children School in 1987. She also attended Santos Layout and Command Secondary School. Omotola had a brief session at Obafemi Awolowo University before moving on to complete her tertiary education at Yaba College of Technology, where she studied Estate Management.
Before she began her acting career, she worked as a model. In 1995, she made her debut appearance when she was given the lead role in the movie ‘Venom of Justice’, directed by Reginald Ebere. Following her debut movie, she got her breakout role in the 1995 firm ‘Mortal Inheritance’ where she played the role of an ill woman combating sickle-cell disease. Since then, she has appeared in over 200 movies.
Some of the movies she has featured in include; Scores to Settle, Kosorogun, When Love Dies, Under Fire, Blood Sisters, Die Another Day, Games Women Play, The Revelation, Sand in My Stories, Yankee Girls, Temple of Justice, My Last Ambition, Ije: The Journey, A Private Storm, Ties That Bind, Last Flight to Abuja, Hit the Floor, Blood on the Lagoon, My Only Inheritance, Alter Ego, The Island, The Tribunal and many more.
As a singer, she started her music career in 2005 with the release of her first album ‘Gba’. In 2012, Omotola started her own reality show on Africa Magic ‘Omotola: The Real Me’. Launching her reality show made her the first Nigerian celebrity to star in her own reality show.
Omotola has worked alongside several Nollywood stars like Genevieve Nnaji, Jim Iyke, Ramsey Nouah, Jide Kosoko and so on.
In 2014, Nigerian Government honoured her as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) due to her contributions to Nigerian cinema.
