Personal Life

Tems is a British-Nigerian singer and songwriter born in Lagos on June 11, 1995, to a British father and a Nigerian mother. Her parents got separated when she was five, so she was raised by her mum. She attended Bowen College in Lekki and then studied Economics at a University in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Career

Tems started music at age 11 when she joined her school choir and started music production when she was 20. She released her first single ‘Mr. Rebel’ in 2018. She also released her hit single ‘Try Me’. Try Me became a popular hit track and has over 3.8 million views on YouTube. She was recruited that year by American singer Khalid to join him and fellow Nigerian singer Davido on an Afrobeats remix of Know Your Worth in 2020.

She was named as one of ‘ten artists to watch’ by DJ Edu.

Trivia

In December 2020, Tems was arrested alongside her manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, and fellow singer, Omah Lay, for violating Covid-19 regulations by performing in a concert in Uganda.
