History Of Abeokuta South

Abeokuta South Local Government Area is situated within the city of Abeokuta in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria. The headquarters of Abeokuta South LGA are located at Ake Abeokuta, with coordinates at 7°09′00″N 3°21′00″E. Abeokuta South covers a total land area of 71 square kilometers.

According to the 2006 census, Abeokuta South had a population of 250,278 inhabitants. However, the estimated population in recent years is approximately 214,606 residents. The majority of the population in Abeokuta South belongs to the Yoruba ethnic group.

Abeokuta South LGA comprises towns and villages, including Emero, Ijemo, Itoko, Oke Ijeun, and Ibara. The area hosts various cultural and festive activities, including the Egungun festival, the Igunuko festival, and the Oro festival.
