History Of Agatu

Agatu Local Government Area is in Benue State, located in North Central Nigeria. Agatu Local Government Area was created in 1996. It used to be the Agatu district of the old Otukpo division. The headquarters of Agatu Local Government Area is at Obagaji.

The area is mainly occupied by the Idoma people of Benue State. The resident population of Agatu is mainly composed of farmers. As of the 1991 census, Agatu had a population of about 80,000. The estimated current population of Agatu LGA is 195,466 inhabitants.
Borders:

Agatu LGA is bordered by Apa and Gwer West Local Government Areas and Kogi State. Some towns and villages in Agatu include Agbachi, Akolo, Akpeko, Egwuma, Ebete, and Egba.
