Akuku-Toru Local Government Area is situated in the south-eastern part of Rivers State, Nigeria. The headquarters of Akuku-Toru LGA is located in the town of Abonnema.

Akuku-Toru LGA is bordered by Degema Local Government Area to the north, Asari-Toru Local Government Area to the east, and Ogbia Local Government Area to the south. The Atlantic Ocean lies to the west of Akuku-Toru LGA.
The major communities in Akuku-Toru include Abonnema, Kula, Idama, Soku, and Elem-Sangama. The people of Akuku-Toru are predominantly Kalabari. The Kalabari language is commonly spoken in the LGA.
