History Of Apa

Apa Local Government Area was first created on March 23, 1981.
It became defunct on December 31, 1983, and was later re-created in August 1991. Apa is located in the northwestern part of Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. The headquarters of Apa Local Government Area is at Ugbokpo.

Apa Local Government Area is bounded to the North by Agatu, to the East by Gwer West, to the South by Otukpo, and to the West by Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State. The local government has a population of about 100,000 people. The population density is approximately 200,300 persons per square kilometer.

The inhabitants of Apa are predominantly Idoma, with a few Igalas and other settlers. Idoma and English languages are widely spoken within the area.
