History Of Birnin-Magaji/Kiyaw

Birnin Magaji/Kiyaw Local Government Area is in Zamfara State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Birnin Magaji (or Magare) in the north of the LGA at12°33′00″N 6°49′00″E. The LGA is also named from the town of Kiyaw (or Kiawa) to the south. It has an area of 1,188 km2 and a population of 178,619 at the 2006 census. The postal code of the area is 882.

Towns and villages that make up Birnin Magaji include Buzuzu, Yargaladima, Bungudu, Birnin Magaji, Cigama, Modomawa, , Kuyawa,Gora, and Danfami Sabon Birimi. Birnin Magaji is bordered by Gusau, Zurmi, and Kaura Namoda and has an Emirate superintended over by the Emir of Birnin Magaji. The popularly spoken language in Birnin Magaji is the Fufulde language while the prominent tribe are the Fulani.
