History Of Gwandu

Gwandu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, Nigeria. Gwandu was founded in the sixteenth century by the Kabbawa. The name "Gwandu" is derived from the Hausa word "gandu," which means "royal farmlands."

From 1815, it served as one of the two capitals of the Fulani empire until it came under British control in 1903. Birnin Kebbi serves as the administrative center for the emirate and is integral to its governance.
