History of Isi Uzo Local Government Area, Enugu State
This area borders between Benue state and Ebonyi state. Its headquarters are in the town of Ikem. The natives are mostly farmers and petty traders. It is also alleged that the area sits on large deposits of crude oil and gas. Majority of the natives are Christians but there are still those who practice African Traditional Religion. The towns have a tradition of Odo worship. The Odo is a masquerade that is usually praised and addressed as “Odomangala”, that is, “Odo, Muo Ngala”, “a spirit of pride” which indicates that as long as the masquerade exists, the people will always be proud and confident of their security. Obviously, this would cause a major rift between the Christians and the adherents of traditional religion. The Federal College Education is located here. Its natural resource? Silica sand.
