History Of Itesiwaju

Itesiwaju Local Government was created on December 4, 1996, by the Federal Military Government led by General Sanni Abacha. The administrative headquarters of Itesiwaju Local Government is located at Otu, approximately 40 kilometers from Itesiwaju, the parent local government from which Itesiwaju was carved out.

"Itesiwaju" is a Yoruba word that translates to "progress" or "onward movement." It reflects the strong belief of the people in the ontological significance of the name and represents their desire for rapid development in the area.

Itesiwaju Local Government has a total area of 1,514 km2. As of the 2006 census, Itesiwaju Local Government had a population of 128,652. The postal code for Itesiwaju Local Government Area is 202.
