History Of Mbo

Mbo Local Government Area is located in the South Eastern part of Nigeria and is a Local Government Area within Akwa Ibom State. It was carved out of Oron Division in 1989 following the local government creation exercise by the federal government. The estimated population of Mbo LGA is approximately 114,700 inhabitants.

Mbo is bounded in the North by Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area, in the South by the Atlantic Ocean and Cameroon, in the East by Udung Uko Local Government Area, and in the West by Esit Eket and Ibeno Local Government Areas.

Mbo LGA is one of the five Local Government Areas associated with the Oron people in Akwa Ibom State. It is made up of clans, some of which are now known as districts. The identified clans/districts include Afaha Okpo Clan, Effiat, Afaha Ukwong (now known as Nkwong District), Ibiaku, Ikpo Ikono, Ikpa Ibom, Atanuk, and Ekpuk. The people of Mbo generally speak the Oro language with minor dialectical differences.
