History Of Obokun

Obokun Local Government Area is situated in Osun State, Nigeria. The local government area covers an area of 527 km⊃2;. As of the 2006 census, the population of Obokun LGA was 116,511.The population increased to 144,980 by 2019. The postal code for Obokun LGA is 233.

Obokun is mainly an Ijesha land, with 97% of the population being Ijesha people, a subgroup of the Yoruba ethnic group.The largest town is Ibokun, serving as the Local Government Headquarters. Other towns include Adaowode, Ipetu-Ile, Otan-Ile, Imesi-ile, Esa-Oke, Esa-Odo, Ilase, Iponda, Ikinyinwa, Idominasi, Ora, and others.

Obokun is predominantly an agricultural area, with major crops including cocoa, yam, cassava, and maize.
There are also small-scale industries in the area, such as food processing, furniture making, and pottery.

The Ijesha people, who make up a significant portion of the population, are known for their rich culture and history.
Obokun is home to important historical sites, including the Ibokun Palace, Ibokun Market, and Ibokun Shrine.
