History Of Ofu

Ofu Local Government is located in the central part of Kogi State, Nigeria. The Niger River forms its western boundary. The headquarters of Ofu Local Government is in the town of Ogwoawo (or Ugwalawo or Gwalawo), situated to the south of the area at coordinates 7°14′09″N 6°55′32″E.

Ofu Local Government area is 1,680 km⊃2;, and the population is 192,169 at the 2006 census. The current estimated population is around 247,930 inhabitants. Ofu LGA is made up of various towns and villages, including Ajoda, Ogwolawo, Walawo, Ogwa, Itobe, Utagidi, Okotete, and Olofu. The area is mostly inhabited by members of the Igala tribe.
