History Of Oruk Anam

Oruk Anam Local Government Area located in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria, within Akwa Ibom State. It is situated in the South West of Akwa Ibom State. The headquarters of Oruk Anam LGA is located in the town of Ikot Ibritam.

Oruk Anam is one of the eight Annang-speaking local government areas.
It consists of two major political units: the Oruk zone and the Anam zone. Oruk zone and Anam zone were initially separate Local Government Areas with headquarters at Urua Anwa and Ikot Akpan Essien, respectively. In 1989, the two Local Government Areas were merged into one, forming Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

Oruk Anam is considered to be the largest Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom, possibly due to its land popularity. Oruk Anam shares boundaries with Ikot-Abasi/Mkpat-Enin (Ibibio speakers) to the south/east and Ukanafun (Annang speakers) to the west.

Several towns and villages make up Oruk Anam LGA, including Ikot Okoro, Ikot Afanga, Ikot Ntuk, Obio Akpa, Ekparakwa, Inen Nsai, and Ntak Ibesit. The estimated population of Oruk Anam LGA is reported to be 141,608 inhabitants.
