Owerri North Local Government Area is situated in Imo State, Nigeria, within the South-east geopolitical zone of the country. The LGA was established to cater to the administrative needs of the area, with its headquarters located in the town of Orie Uratta.

Owerri North LGA covers an area of 198 square kilometers. According to the 2006 census, it had a population of 175,395 inhabitants. The current estimated population is approximately 292,314 inhabitants. Owerri North LGA comprises several towns and villages, including Egbu, Naze, Emekuku, Emii, Ihite, Ogada, Oha, Umuofor, and Umuayalu.

The majority of the population in Owerri North LGA belongs to the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken throughout the area.
