History Of Oyigbo

Oyigbo Local Government Area is located in Rivers State, Nigeria. The administrative headquarters of Oyigbo LGA is situated in the town of Afam. The indigenous inhabitants of Oyigbo LGA primarily comprise the Igbos of ASA, who are also indigenous to Ukwa West L.G.A in Abia State, and the Ndoki people, who are found in Ukwa East L.G.A of Abia State and Ukanafun L.G.A of Akwa Ibom State. 

Oyigbo LGA is comprised of various towns, villages, and districts, including Obigbo district (Asa, Komkom, Obeama, Obigbo) and the Ndoki district (Afa Uku, Afam, Afam Nta, Azusogu, Egberu, Mgboji, Mrihu, Obeakpu, Obeta, Obumku, Okoloma, Okponta, Umuagbai, Umuosi).

The current estimated population of Oyigbo LGA stands at 209,841 inhabitants, with the majority belonging to the Obigbo sub-division of the Igbo ethnic group. The Obigbo dialect is commonly spoken in the LGA,
