History Of Tarka

Tarka Local Government Area is in Benue State, located in Northcentral Nigeria. The headquarters of Tarka Local Government Area is in the town of Wannune. Tarka LGA has an area of 371 km2.

According to the 2006 census, Tarka had a population of 79,494.
The estimated current population is approximately 210,823 inhabitants. The postal code for the area is 981. Tarka LGA shares boundaries with Guma, Gwer, Buruku, and Gboko LGAs.

Some towns and villages that make up Tarka LGA include Mbaigba, Tongov, Uchi, Asukunya, Tarhembe, Wannune, Tiortyu, Mbaayo, and Shitile. The majority of the area's dwellers are members of the Mbakor sub-division of the Tiv ethnic group. The Mbakor dialect of the Tiv language is widely spoken in the LGA.
