History Of Ukum

Ukum Local Government Area situated in Benue State, located in the North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of Ukum Local Government Area is in the town of Sankera.

Ukum LGA has an area of 1,514 square kilometres (585 sq mi). According to the 2006 census, Ukum had a population of 216,930. The current estimated population is put at 192,341 inhabitants.

Ukum LGA is bordered by the Logo and Katsina Ala LGAs.
It also shares borders with parts of Taraba state. Some towns and villages in Ukum LGA include Zaki-biam, Kyado, Samkera, Jootar, Tine-nune, Gbeji, and Juta. The area is majorly occupied by members of the Tiv ethnic group. The Tiv language is commonly spoken in the LGA. The postal code for the area is 980.
