10 Curious Things You Probably Didn't Know About Testicles, Including Why You Should Play With Your Partner’s

10 Curious Things You Probably Didn't Know About Testicles,

Testicle is either of the two oval organs that produce sperm in men and other male mammals, enclosed in the scrotum behind the penis.

It’s the testes’ job to produce sperm.

Here are 10 facts you might know about the testicles:

1) Testicles of a male calf or other livestock are cooked and eaten in a dish sometimes called Rocky Mountain oysters.

2) As early as 330 BC, Aristotle, the popular Greek philosopher, prescribed the ligation (tying off) of the left testicle in men wishing to have boys. In the Middle Ages, men who wanted a boy sometimes had their left testicle removed. This was because people believed that the right testicle made "boy" sperm and the left made "girl" sperm.

3) According to Dr. Evan Goldstein, CEO and founder of Bespoke Surgical, in a report published on Healthline, stimulating the testes may boost production of the male reproductive cell. “Ball stimulation can actually promote ejaculatory production,” he says.

4) Playing with the testicles may help folks identify any abnormalities in their partner’s parts, according to a clinical sexologist Dr. Megan Stubbs. “Playing with your partner’s testicles can help you become familiar with them,” says Stubbs. “That way you’ll be able to identify any irregularities like lumps and swelling that could indicate something is up.”

Many different things can qualify as testicle play — you can use your mouth, hands, toys, and more to play with testicles.

5) The testicles, also called the testes, produce about 1,500 sperm every second, Michael Reitano, MD, physician-in-residence at men’s health company Roman, said, as per Health.

That's about 90,000 sperm every minute, 5.4 million every hour, and 130 million every day. Each guy is different, and sperm count does vary, but the typical pair of nuts make well over a million sperm every single day.

6) Testicles are 5 degrees colder than the rest of the body.

Testicular temperature has to be about 5 degrees lower than the rest of the body in order to properly preserve sperm. The scrotum (the wrinkly pouch of skin that holds the testicles) is about 93.4 degrees Fahrenheit, while the body is typically 98.6.

7) The testicle on the left usually hangs a little lower than the one on the right, and this why...
For the temperature of one testis to change without that energy being sent to the other testis, as it would if they were adjacent or touching," Dr. Michael Reitano says. This way, the body can increase or decrease the temperature of one testis without affecting the temperature of the other.

8) There is something called Balldo. It is the world's first sex toy that lets you to penetrate your partner with your balls -- the device that turns your testicles into a second penis.

9) Many men of all ages experience pain in their testicles at some point in their lifetime.  The pain may be felt in one or both testicles and may also radiate to other regions, such as the groin, penis, or leg.  Some problems may not directly involve the testicles but may be felt there; for instance, some men with kidney stones may feel pain in their testicle when the stone gets close to passing.

10) In Ancient Rome, men took oaths by placing a hand on their testicles.
