The figures were confirmed to Governor Babagana Zulum by the hospital officials, where the victims were rushed to. This was done when the governor visited the area to assess the situation.
Residents of the area were thrown into panic mode around 7pm when there were reports of multiple gunshots and explosions near the Gomari area of the state.
According to sources, there were explosions in Mairi area, a student’s village near the University of Maiduguri.
However, the military immediately deployed gun trucks to the area as reports suggested that worshippers in a mosque on the street called “Layin Bori” may have been killed.

According to Channels Television, air patrol was observed to have commenced as the military combed the marked area around Gwange.
This is the first attack on Maiduguri town in a long time, and this may be connected with the sustained onslaught on insurgents in the Sambisa axis of the state.
Attacks on Boko Haram strongholds have in the past forced the insurgents to regroup as they sometimes filter into towns or attack soft targets.
